Frequently Asked Questions
What are better group classes or private classes?
In a group class you will not only be talking to the teacher, but also to other students. In a private class you will be talking to the teacher. In both classes you will be speaking and receive feedback.
How often will I have classes?
Students who are in a group class meet once a week, and those who take private lessons may opt to have classes once or twice a week. Some students have chosen to have classes every day for a couple of months because they needed to accelerate their learning for a specific goal.
Are classes in person or online? How long do they last?
Classes are online, last for 50 minutes, and are given by a teacher in real time. This is not an app.
How are the classes structured?
During class you will be mainly speaking, listening, and reading. In general writing will be part of homework. You will also be using textbooks.
What type of Spanish do you teach?
I teach standard Spanish so that my students can communicate if they travel to Latin America or Spain and explain any vocabulary differences depending on where they will travel, the same with the use of personal pronoun vosotros. As I am Argentinian but my family was originally from Spain I am familiar with some differences in vocabulary.
What program do you follow?
I follow a curriculum used in many schools and districts in the United States and may use american books or Spanish ones. Also, I draw from my experience of teaching languages in other countries like Argentina and Canada.
What ages do you teach?
Though I have taught in schools from kindergarten to grade 12 and adults, now I teach from kids who are +7 to teens and adults of all ages.
How long does it take to learn a language?
To be fluent in a language takes time, however if you take classes regularly and dedicate some time to it you will be able to start greeting people, have basic conversations, ask questions, follow directions and move from beginner to intermediate level. The more dedicated and consistent you are, the more progress you will make, till you become confident in the language.
What is better to play with an app or study in a more traditional way?
I think that everything helps, textbooks, learning grammar, listening to songs, listening to the radio, extensive readings, authentic reading, playing with an app, watching videos or movies, and talking to Spanish speakers. This is applicable not only to learning Spanish, but French and English as well.
